デザイナー、一太郎さんが生み出すMATOLITE (マトライト)。
以前、パリでのショールームに先立ち、shop talkにブランドストーリーを掲載しました。

デザイナーが歩んできた人生の道のりでしか実現し得ない、特化したものづくり。
話を聞けば聞くほど、そのあり方がいかに特殊で、いかにパーソナルなものかを感じさせられます。
つくり手の生き方そのものが、洋服にそのまま立ち上がってくる。
そんな替えの利かない存在には、心惹かれるのではないでしょうか。
それがよりパーソナルなものであるほどに、つくり手の心が直接的に宿る。
デザイナー本人は、自らのものづくりを通して、自分の精神と向き合い、それを高めていく、磨きをかけていくことこそが「MATOLITE」だと言う。
自然物と人工物。
本来は相容れない、対極にあるような関係でも、徹底的なまで磨きをかけていけば、一体となることができるのではないだろうか。
雄大な大地や植物、太陽の恵み。
自然物との境界が溶け、真に馴染むような感覚。
MATOLITEのコレクションを見ているとそのように思わされます。
長年、世界中の様々な洋服を目の当たりにしてきた弊社代表・秋吉は、こう話します。
「MATOLITEは一太郎さんそのもの。
デザイナーの美学、考え方がそのまま形になっている。
レザーに対する向き合い方、付属やパターン、その一つひとつから一太郎さんという人物を感じとることができる。
そして、いわゆるレザークラフトやレザーブランドとは一線を画している。
デザイナーズブランドでありながら、多くのレザーブランドを凌駕している存在だ。」と、そう語ります。

A few months ago, ahead of the Paris showroom presentation, we featured the brand story of MATOLITE on shop talk.

A form of craftsmanship that could only have been realized through the unique path the designer has walked in his life.
The more we listen, the more we understand how singular—and how deeply personal—his approach truly is.
The designer’s way of living rises directly to the surface of each garment.
It is only natural that we are drawn to such irreplaceable creations.
The more personal the work becomes, the more directly the maker’s spirit resides within it.
Ichitaro himself says that through the act of creation, facing his own inner spirit, elevating it, and refining it—that is what MATOLITE represents.
Nature and the artificial.
Even elements that seem inherently incompatible—standing at opposite ends of a spectrum—may become one when refined to their utmost limit.
The vast earth, the plants that grow upon it, the blessings of the sun.
The boundary between nature and what is man-made begins to dissolve, settling into a sense of true harmony.
Looking at the collection of MATOLITE, one cannot help but feel this.
Our representative, Nobu—who has spent decades encountering garments from around the world—speaks of MATOLITE in this way:
“MATOLITE is Ichitaro himself.
His aesthetics and his way of thinking appear exactly as they are, shaped into clothing.
From his approach to leather, to every piece of hardware and every pattern, you can sense the person that Ichitaro is.
And it stands apart from what is typically considered leather craft or leather brands.
Though it is a designer’s brand, it surpasses many leather brands in its presence and depth.”
