パリにアトリエを構えるbengt paris (ベンクト パリ)。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

最大の特徴は、フロントの”ステッチワーク”。

 

とても目を惹きながらも、よくよく見ると表に現れる”一針一針の糸目”まで独自性が溢れ、一台のミシンを駆使して製作をするその技法。

 

Tシャツやスウェットを中心に施すステッチの数々は、そのテクニックはもちろん、ブランドのセンスが半端じゃない程に光ります。

 

 

そのような意味合いでは、服をキャンバスとして描かれる”作品”とも言える要素を、ある程度含んでいるとは思いますが、ベースとなるTシャツやスウェットそのもの。。。

 

 

その服としてのレベルも、かなりのものだと僕は思います。

 

 

世の中に数多く流通するTシャツやスウェットは、多量に生産された既成のボディであることが多いですが、bengt parisでは、デザイナーがパターンや裁断、縫製をアトリエ内で行なう。

 

そのため、固有の特徴が非常に色濃く反映されています。

 

それは、一般的に考えるとかなり”クセ”があるものだと思いますが、それだけ”作り手の美意識”が投影されているものであるとも言えます。

 

そして、その出来栄えが、僕はクオリティが高いと思っているし、とても好き。

 

 

また、先述の通り、ブランドとしての最大の特徴でもある”ステッチワーク”。

 

それによって描かれるART WORKも存在します。

 

 

 

僕自身は、以前販売員時代に、bengt parisの取り扱いをしていたことがありますが、その時に感じていたことが、オリジナリティ溢れるテクニックを駆使して、見る人をクスッと笑わせ、楽しませるという、精神的な側面へのアプリーチをするということ。

 

 

それは自分自身もそうであり、ご覧頂くお客様方からも感じていました。

 

 

そんなbengt paris。

 

 

5月31日(土)〜6月8日(日)で、期間限定の販売イベントを開催致します。

今日は、そのbengt parisの洋服を少し具体的に紹介します。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

bengt parisでは、様々なスタイルのステッチが施されますが、全て共通している事項があります。

 

 

 

 

 

それは、全てのステッチが”ミシンの糸調子を狂わせ”、”裏側から縫われる”ということ。

 

上の写真で、縫い目からボコボコと”玉”のようなものが飛び出していることが分かるでしょうか？？

 

 

ミシンは、上糸と下糸の2種類が存在し、通常であれば、上糸側の生地面が綺麗に糸目が見えます。

 

そのため、基本的に洋服縫製は、着用時に目に見える表側に、上糸が現れるように縫うものです。

 

また、ミシンの上糸と下糸が均等に引っ張り合い、生地に応じて、糸目の均整が保たれていることを「糸調子が取れている」と言います。

 

 

そのようなことが通例の中、ミシンを独自のバランスで調節し、意図的に糸調子を狂わせて裏側から縫うことによって、”糸の動きを逆手”にとった視覚表現を行なっています。

ミシンの糸調子をかなり狂わせて、表側に糸目の表情を豊かに出しています。

 

また、驚きなのが、ステッチで縫われている箇所のどこを見ても、縫い目の周辺に”ピリつき”や、シワ、縫い伸びなどの変形が起こっていないこと。これも本当にすごいと思う。

 

いくらTシャツのボディそのものが、強靭なものを使用しているとは言え、ステッチに伴うシワが一切発生していないのは、一つ一つが丁寧で、とても上手く縫われていることが明らか。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

誰が見ても、ステッチワークで描かれた”そのもの”が特定できる精度の高さ。

 

そして、とても機知に富んだ、素晴らしい表現のバランス。

 

これまでのいろいろなbengt parisの生み出してきたものを見て頂けたら、共感してもらえると思うのですが、誰も傷つけないことはもちろん、みんなを喜ばせ、楽しませる見事な表現がされています。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

また、その表現はもちろん、方法も凄まじい。

 

この有名な女性を表現したステッチワーク。

 

“Pixel”という名前が付いたシリーズである。

 

小さな正方形が、なんと驚異の”469個”で描かれているというシロモノ。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

この全てを自分でミシンで縫っていくと思うと、果てしなく、途方もない仕事に感じる。

 

だけど、それゆえに、デザイナーのジミー・ルースさんしか成し得ないものが完成していると思います。

 

 

また、先述の通り重要なのは、そのステッチだけを打っているのではないということ。

 

アトリエで裁断、パターン、縫製などを自分で設計し、形づくっているし、自らつくらないと、これだけのステッチの数々は製品には入れられない。

 

そして、僕は、そのようなbengt parisの生地と形もすごくレベルが高いものだと感じています。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

写真のように、bengt parisのTシャツの袖を上に持ち上げると、袖の外袖側がほぼ真ん中に近い位置で折れ曲がります。

 

大体、僕の認識では通常のTシャツは、同じようにした場合、もっとアームホールに近い箇所で折れ曲がるのがスタンダード。

 

つまり、Tシャツにしては、かなり高い袖山であり、それに比例して、イセ込みの分量が多く、日頃着用している時には、肩周りがシャープで洗練された印象となります。

 

また、それに伴い、一般的なTシャツよりも、脇の部分に生地の溜まりが起こらない。

 

決してルーズなサイズ設計ではありませんが、溜まりがない分、脇に独特な空間が生まれ、着た時にスッキリと感じられます。

 

このことは、着用時に、心地良さの違いとして実感して頂けると思います。

 

 

 

 

 

 

生地の密度が高く、自立した生地感であるため、ブランドの設計した形がよく出るのですが、身頃も体から離れたところに輪郭が描かれるように設計されています。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

スウェットやフーディなどは、Tシャツと違い、肩線が落ちた設定で、生地はかなりの度詰です。

 

毛羽立ちは極めて少なく、裏の起毛はありません。

 

そのため、ブランドのパターン設計が非常によく引き立ちます。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

糸がギュッと締まり、目がよく詰まったスウェット生地。

 

見た目にも、とても整った印象を感じてもらえると思います。

 

 

 

 

 

 

リブも同じ糸を使用して、硬いのが特徴です。

 

 

 

 

 

 

ネックポイントから肩にかけての傾斜が強く、こちらも袖山が高いように思います。

 

そのため、袖を持ち上げるとアームホールから離れたところで外袖が折れ曲がる。

 

 

 

 

 

 

ハンガーにかけた状態でも、アームホールの下部が身頃に食い込むように入っていきます。

 

これは着用時には、とてもシャープなフォルムを演出してくれることに繋がります。

 

 

 

 

 

 

このようなスウェットやフーディでは珍しいですが、脇下から裾に向かって細くなる設計。

 

身幅は、比較的ゆとりがありますが、それがルーズなサイズバランスをつくるためではなく、あくまでもbengt parisの美意識によるフォルムをつくり出すための寸法値。

 

とてもよくできているバランスですので、たくさんの種類があるわけではありませんが、ご検討頂ける方は実感頂けると幸いです。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

タイミング的なこともあり、今回ご覧頂けるものはTシャツが中心です。

 

今日、掲載しているもの以外にも様々なバリエーションがあり、それぞれにbengt parisのムードを感じて頂けると思います。

 

 

非常に原始的な方法で、見る人、着る人の心を楽しませてくれるものづくり。

 

特に、夏場においてTシャツというものは、ヴィンテージTシャツや、プリント、無地のものやいろんなジャンルがありますが、広く見ても、ここまで特化したものは稀有な存在。

 

 

こういうジャンルの洋服で、陳列されているものを笑いながら選んだり、本気のかっこよさがあるのにも関わらず、笑いながら試着したりするブランドって世界にどれだけあるだろうか。と僕は思います。

 

 

決してもの凄く高額なわけではないけれど、このようなプライスゾーンの洋服では、なかなかそのような経験はできないのではないでしょうか。

 

 

そういった意味でも、非常にオリジナリティが満載のbengt paris。

 

 

“暑いから致し方なく着るTシャツ”ではなく、正真正銘、”暑い時に着たくなるTシャツ”であると思います。

Today, I’d like to share a shop talk update, which also serves as an announcement.

Bengt Paris, a brand with an atelier in Paris, is known for one standout feature: its front stitchwork.

It’s incredibly eye-catching, and upon closer inspection, you’ll notice that even each individual stitch thread visible on the surface is uniquely distinctive. This is all crafted using a single sewing machine—an impressive technique in itself.

The various stitches featured on T-shirts and sweatshirts highlight not only the brand’s remarkable technique but also its exceptional sense of style.

In that sense, the pieces could be considered artworks, painted on the canvas of clothing. However, even putting that aspect aside—the base garments themselves, such as the T-shirts and sweatshirts—

I personally believe they are of an exceptionally high standard as clothing.

While many T-shirts and sweatshirts on the market are made using mass-produced, generic bodies, Bengt Paris designs, cuts, and sews each garment in its own atelier.

Because of that, the individuality of each piece is strongly reflected in the clothing.

From a general perspective, this might seem quite “quirky,” but it’s a clear projection of the creator’s aesthetic sensibility.

And I truly believe the quality of the final product is outstanding. I really love it.

As mentioned earlier, one of the brand’s biggest signatures is the stitchwork.

Some pieces also feature artwork that is rendered through those stitches.

I personally used to work with Bengt Paris during my time as a sales associate, and what I strongly felt back then was this: through its original techniques, the brand adds an emotional layer by making viewers smile and enjoy themselves.

I felt that myself, and I could sense the same from the customers who saw the clothes.

Today, I’d like to give you a closer look at some of Bengt Paris’s clothing.

 

At bengt paris, various styles of stitching are used—but there’s one common thread that runs through all of them:

Every stitch is sewn from the reverse side, and the sewing machine’s thread tension is deliberately disrupted.

If you look at the photo above, can you see the small “knots” or “bumps” protruding from the stitching?

A sewing machine uses two threads—an upper thread and a lower thread. Under normal circumstances, the stitches on the upper thread side (the visible outer side of a garment) appear neat and clean.

That’s why, in standard garment construction, the upper thread is usually used on the exterior of the garment—the side visible when worn.

When the upper and lower threads are pulling against each other evenly and the stitch balance is appropriate for the fabric, we say the “thread tension is properly set.”

However, bengt paris intentionally distorts this balance by adjusting the machine’s settings and sewing from the underside. This results in a visual expression that cleverly subverts the natural movement of the thread—bringing out a rich, expressive texture on the outer side.

What’s even more surprising is that, despite all this stitching, there is no puckering, wrinkling, or warping around the stitched areas. I find that truly impressive.

Even though the base fabric used for the T-shirts is durable, the fact that no wrinkling occurs around the stitching clearly shows that each stitch is sewn with care and skill.

The accuracy is so high that anyone can easily recognize the design created through the stitching.

And the balance of that expression—it’s witty and wonderfully executed.

If you look through bengt paris’s previous creations, I think you’ll agree: not only does the work avoid hurting anyone, it brings joy and amusement through its brilliant expression. And it’s not just the result that’s remarkable—the method is, too.

Take for example this famous stitchwork portrait of a woman.

This is part of a series titled “Pixel”.

The image is made up of a jaw-dropping 469 small squares, each sewn individually by machine.

When you think about how each square is machine-sewn by hand, the scale of the effort is almost unfathomable.

And yet, it is precisely that devotion which makes the piece something only designer Jimmy Roux could have created.

As I mentioned before, what’s important is that it’s not just about the stitchwork.

He also designs the pattern, does the cutting, and sews the garment himself at the atelier. If he didn’t construct the piece himself, it would be impossible to incorporate such an enormous number of stitches into the product.

That’s why I also feel that the fabric and silhouette of bengt paris garments are of an extremely high level.

 

When you lift the sleeve of a bengt paris T-shirt—as shown in the photo—the outer sleeve bends at a point that’s surprisingly close to the center.

In my understanding, a typical T-shirt, when treated the same way, usually folds much closer to the armhole.

This means that for a T-shirt, the sleeve cap is quite high, and accordingly, the amount of ease built into the sleeve is substantial. As a result, when worn, the shoulder area has a sharp and refined appearance.

Additionally, unlike most T-shirts, there’s no fabric bunching around the underarm area.

While the sizing is by no means loose, the absence of bunching creates a unique open space around the underarm, which gives the garment a clean, structured feeling when worn.

You’ll likely notice this difference in comfort when wearing it.

The fabric has a high density and a firm, self-supporting texture, which helps the brand’s tailored silhouette stand out. The body of the garment is designed to contour away from the body, creating a clear outline that floats slightly off the skin.

When it comes to sweatshirts and hoodies, unlike the T-shirts, the shoulder seams are dropped, and the fabric is very tightly knitted.

There’s almost no fuzziness to the surface, and the interior is not brushed.

This allows the brand’s pattern design to shine through more clearly.

The sweatshirt fabric is tightly woven, with threads pulled taut to create a crisp, structured texture.

Visually, this gives off an extremely neat and organized impression.

Even the ribbing uses the same type of thread, and is characterized by its firmness.

The slope from the neckline to the shoulder is quite steep, and this too contributes to the high sleeve cap.

So again, when you lift the sleeve, it bends far from the armhole.

Even on a hanger, you’ll notice how the lower armhole area tucks neatly into the body of the garment.

This results in a very sharp silhouette when worn.

It’s rare for sweatshirts or hoodies, but the design tapers from the underarm down to the hem.

Though the body width allows for some room, it’s not meant to create a loose fit. Instead, the measurements are chosen to express the brand’s distinct aesthetic and silhouette.

The balance is exceptionally well thought-out. While the selection may not be vast, I believe that those who try it on will truly appreciate it.

 

Due to the timing, the selection available this time will mainly consist of T-shirts.

There are various other styles beyond what’s shown here today, each offering its own expression of the bengt paris mood.

This is craftsmanship that delights the hearts of those who see and wear it—through a very primitive, fundamental approach.

When it comes to T-shirts in summer, there are vintage ones, printed ones, plain ones, and so many other genres. But even in that broad landscape, it’s rare to find something this specialized.

I often wonder—how many brands in the world allow you to laugh and enjoy yourself while choosing clothes in this genre, or try things on with a smile even when the pieces have serious style?

These pieces aren’t outrageously expensive, but in this price range, such an experience is exceptionally rare.

That’s another reason why bengt paris is filled with originality.

This isn’t a T-shirt you wear simply because it’s hot outside—it’s a T-shirt you genuinely want to wear when it’s hot.
