2025年3月、オランダのアムステルダム。

 

 

郊外にアトリエを構え、コレクションの製作を行なうBIEK VERSTAPPENのもとを代表の秋吉と訪れました。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ブランドがアトリエを構える地域は、日本と比べて、土地が広大に感じ、とても空が大きく見えたのを記憶しています。

 

訪れた3月はまだ寒かったのですが、翌月からオランダ特有のたくさんの花畑が咲き誇って、一面が花々で覆われるそうです。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

豊かな自然溢れる環境の中に、突如として、とてつもない空間が現れる。

 

それがBIEK VERSTAPPENの拠点。

 

 

以前に話には聞いていたのですが、実際に訪れてみると、衝撃的にカッコいい現場だと思いました。

 

全てが”見もの”のアトリエ。

 

 

そして、アトリエと洋服との”顔つき”が同じであると感じた。

 

この場所でつくられるから、このようなBIEK VERSTAPPENのコレクションが生まれるのだ。と納得しました。

 

 

今回は、全てのコレクションがつくられる、そのようなBIEK VERSTAPPENのアトリエを写真を中心に紹介します。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

まず、BIEK VERSTAPPENは、ブランドのコレクションの全てがアトリエ内で生産をされます。

 

Biekさん本人と、数名の職人とで全世界の取引先に向けた製作が完結されるというもの。

 

アトリエ内部は、洋服の生産工程ごとに、それぞれに空間が区分けされていました。

 

 

 

 

 

 

ソーイングルーム。

 

複数台のミシンや、アイロン台が並ぶ空間。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

そこでは数人の縫製師さんたちが生産を進めている真っ只中。

 

洋服の細かい箇所に手を入れ、量産的ではない方法で、一つ一つを丈夫で美しいものに仕上げていました。

 

BIEK VERSTAPPENの洋服は、後述しますが、”染色”が最大の特徴であるブランド。

 

柔らかい素材だけではなく、ハードな生地のものでも、製品染めを施される場合もあります。

 

それでも、一切の綻びがなく、凛として、シャープなエッジが利いた洋服に仕上がっていますが、それを支えるために丁寧に、時間をかけて行われる工程である。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

そして、ここがデザインルーム。

 

 

 

 

 

 

これまでのアーカイブコレクションや、型紙の数々。

 

 

写真には収めていませんが、このデザインルームには、ブランドを象徴するストールを製作するための大型の特殊なマシンも設置されていました。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

これまで使用してきた生地も保管される。

 

 

 

 

 

 

そして、この空間がブランドの真髄。

 

“染色”の現場。

 

 

 

 

 

 

“アトリエ生産”というものにも、いろんな種類がありますが、BIEK VERSTAPPENにはその中でも大きな特色があります。

 

それがこの”染色”の工程。

 

 

アトリエ内で、デザインから最終仕上げまでの、生産における一連の工程を少数精鋭で行いますが、染色はBiekさん本人が必ず行なうもの。

 

 

そして、その”染色”こそがBIEK VERSTAPPENの洋服の最大の特徴であり、魅力である。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

全てがオリジナルのレシピで染色されるBIEK VERSTAPPENのコレクション。

 

 

例え、先染めの生地であっても、自身で製品染めを施す。

 

 

良質な素材の持つ、本来の風合いだけではなく、そこにブランド特有の染色を重ねることで、更なるポテンシャルを最大限に引き出す。

 

 

そして、見るものを惹き付ける、素材の手触り、奥行き、複雑な色合いなどのテクスチャーを演出し続けているのがBIEK VERSTAPPEN。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

染色は写真の釜で行われる。

 

あまりに大きな釜だと洋服によって差が出るし、小さ過ぎると染まり切らない。

 

一気にたくさんの数を染色することはできないが、大きさや温度管理など、適正で狙った染色が可能となる釜であるという。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

オリジナルレシピの染料が並ぶ。

 

 

 

 

 

 

ブランドで意図した色合い、風合いにするため、一度に染色できる数は限定的。

 

時間をかけて少ない着数で染めていくそうだ。

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

流通数は限られていますが、見るものを惹きつけ、洋服に深いムードが宿るのがBIEK VERSTAPPEN。

March 2025, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

We visited BIEK VERSTAPPEN’s atelier in the suburbs of Amsterdam, together with our director Akiyoshi.

I remember how the area where the brand is based felt vast compared to Japan—the land stretched far and the sky looked overwhelmingly expansive.

Although it was still cold when we visited in March, we were told that starting the following month, the Netherlands would be in full bloom, with vast fields of flowers covering the landscape.

In the midst of such rich natural surroundings, a truly extraordinary space suddenly emerges.

That is the home of BIEK VERSTAPPEN.

I had heard about it before, but seeing it in person, I was struck by how incredibly cool the place was.

An atelier where everything is a spectacle.

And I felt that the “expression” of the atelier and the clothes were one and the same.

It was clear to me: These collections could only be born in a place like this.

In this piece, we introduce the atelier where the entire BIEK VERSTAPPEN collection is brought to life—through a series of photographs.

 

First and foremost, BIEK VERSTAPPEN produces its entire collection in-house, within its own atelier.

The production is fully carried out by Biek herself, along with a small team of skilled artisans, to fulfill orders from clients around the world.

Inside the atelier, the space is divided according to the various stages of garment production.
The sewing room—a space lined with multiple sewing machines and ironing boards.

There, a few seamstresses were in the midst of production, carefully working on the garments.

They meticulously tended to even the smallest details, using non-mass-production methods to create pieces that are both durable and beautiful.

As we will discuss later, “dyeing” is the hallmark of BIEK VERSTAPPEN’s creations.

Even not only soft materials but also heavier fabrics are sometimes dyed as finished garments (garment-dyed).

Despite this, there are absolutely no signs of distortion or flaws—the garments are crisp, composed, and defined with sharp edges.
That refined finish is only possible thanks to the meticulous and time-consuming craftsmanship behind each piece.

 

And this is the design room.
Here, you’ll find an archive of past collections and a multitude of patterns.

Although it isn’t shown in the photos, this design room also houses a large, specialized machine used to create the brand’s signature stoles.

 

And this space represents the very essence of the brand.

The dyeing studio.

There are many forms of “atelier production,” but what sets BIEK VERSTAPPEN apart is this—the process of dyeing.

Within the atelier, a small and dedicated team handles the entire production flow, from design to final finishing. Yet, it is Biek herself who always undertakes the dyeing process.

And it is precisely this dyeing that defines and elevates BIEK VERSTAPPEN’s garments—it is their most distinctive feature and core appeal.

Every piece in the BIEK VERSTAPPEN collection is dyed using original recipes, created exclusively for the brand.

Even when using pre-dyed fabrics, Biek performs additional garment dyeing by hand.

This approach doesn’t just preserve the inherent texture and character of the high-quality materials—it amplifies their potential, layering on the brand’s unique expressions through color.

The result is clothing that captivates the eye and the senses—with compelling textures, dimensional depth, and rich, nuanced tones.
That is what defines BIEK VERSTAPPEN.

The dyeing is done in the vat shown in the photo.

If the vat is too large, inconsistencies may appear depending on the garment. If it’s too small, the dye may not fully penetrate the fabric.

While it’s not possible to dye a large number of garments all at once, the vat is precisely calibrated in terms of size and temperature control, allowing for intentional and consistent dyeing.

To achieve the exact color tones and textures the brand envisions, only a limited number of garments can be dyed at a time.

Each piece is dyed slowly and carefully, in small batches.

As a result, the number of pieces available on the market is limited,
but every BIEK VERSTAPPEN garment captivates with its profound atmosphere and rich presence.
