Now, we are at the stage where deliveries will soon begin.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Personally, during my time as a buyer for select shops, I was deeply involved in nonnotte, frequently working with Sugihara on garment production. I had the privilege of witnessing firsthand his exceptional craftsmanship and expertise in clothing design.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Because of this, I believe I have a deep understanding of Sugihara\u2019s capabilities as a designer. The more I learned about his approach to garment-making, the more I was amazed. His work consistently provided insights and inspiration, proving that his skills and techniques as a Japanese designer are truly irreplaceable.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Now, as mentioned at the beginning, AEHRR is about to be unveiled.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n With nonnotte, Sugihara has always prioritized a primal and instinctive approach, creating collections that primarily focus on menswear\u2014pieces that he himself would want to wear.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n In contrast, AEHRR is a women\u2019s collection that pushes his technical expertise and artistic sensibility to their fullest potential. Of course, no one is born with the ability to create garments from the very beginning.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Most people undergo specialized education to learn the craft. Sugihara, too, received formal training both in Japan and abroad. However, the most remarkable aspects of his garment-making expertise were not simply taught to him by others. Rather, they were cultivated through his hands-on experience in Paris and over a decade of relentless daily refinement.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n The foundation of his approach to garment-making is deeply rooted in the era when women’s fashion was at its most sculptural and beautiful\u2014between the 1930s and 1950s.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n This was a time when couture craftsmanship thrived, despite the limited availability of resources compared to today. AEHRR is built upon this very tradition.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n As a result, the garments created under AEHRR are truly unparalleled\u2014pieces that are exceptionally difficult to replicate in today’s fashion landscape. Now, I would like to introduce you to the essence of AEHRR.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n The greatest strength of designer Atsushi Sugihara lies in his draping technique.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Most people have probably heard the term “pattern” before.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n In simple terms, a pattern is the blueprint for constructing a garment.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n In most cases, the process of creating clothing involves a designer conceptualizing a design, which is then translated into form by a specialized pattern maker.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n In other words, the designer and the pattern maker are often two separate individuals.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Naturally, each pattern maker has their own personality, approach, and unique touch, meaning that the final garment\u2019s structure and overall appearance are inevitably influenced by who the designer collaborates with.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Since a pattern maker\u2019s own style and thought process always come through, the direction and character of the clothing can subtly shift depending on the partnership between designer and pattern maker. \u201cThe visual design is created first, and then a pattern is developed to bring that design to life.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n However, AEHRR does not follow this conventional approach at all. Sugihara refers to himself as a “sculptor.”<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n In the process of creating a collection, design does not come first.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Of course, there are times when a design takes shape in his mind beforehand, but more often than not, that is not the case.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Instead, he works with:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n By manipulating these two elements, he constructs the garment\u2019s structure and silhouette.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n This process is known as draping, and for AEHRR, it is an essential and irreplaceable technique.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n At first, a flat, lifeless piece of fabric is placed on the body form. But through Sugihara\u2019s draping, using only pins and scissors, it instantly transforms into a three-dimensional sculptural form.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Watching this process unfold feels as though the fabric is gradually coming to life before your eyes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n At the same time as the fabric takes on form, key structural elements such as bodice seams, armhole placements, and volume distribution are naturally determined.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Once the sculptural form is complete, it is then completely deconstructed\u2014broken down into individual components.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n These components are then traced to create the pattern.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n It is no exaggeration to say that there are virtually no other brands in Japan that follow this approach.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n This method also brings significant benefits to the wearer and owner.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n I hope to share more details in the next post, but I am confident that this approach will lead to a sense of discovery and joy when wearing AEHRR garments. What AEHRR offers is an experience that is nearly impossible to encounter with other clothing.
